Nova Scotia is a maritime province, one of three in Canada. The capital is Halifax. It is the second smallest of Canada’s 10 provinces. However, the population is one of the largest at about 923,000 residents.
Even though Nova Scotia is nearly surrounded by water, the climate more resembles a continental climate as compared to a maritime one. For the most part, the climate is generally moderate. The province does not suffer from extremes in heat or cold. Daily temperatures can fluctuate, especially in areas by the ocean. The winters remain generally around the freezing point and summers tend to stay at about 25C or 75F.
Nova Scotia’s economy is largely resource based. Fishing of course is a major sector of economic activity. In addition, the mining of gypsum/salt and offshore oil and gas drilling also play a significant role in employment. Lastly, the defense and aerospace industries have been a large presence for many years.
